after working for large agencies & corporations for many years, i saw first hand the outrageous cost to have a brand firm or agency create a brand for businesses. and let me tell you, the one designing it and making it happen (aka me) sure the hell wasn't getting paid that fat invoice they were billing to the client🙄 🤔
all while working full-time, i still took on freelance, not for the money (well sometimes, most of the time, for a Zara shopping spree) but mostly because it was a change of pace from my other work and it always allowed me to be more creative. Yes, i was (and still am) always busy but i found without my freelance work/clients, i just felt empty. i felt like i wasn’t really making a difference or impacting people with my work the way i envisioned and hoped to. i love working directly with my clients, building a trusting relationship. becasue lets be real here, without clients, our lives would be way too easy 😬 just kidding. without clients, we wouldn’t have anyone questioning our decisions, giving us real life problems to solve through design and in the end, giving us a reason to design.
as designers, yes we want everything to look perfectly pretty but we are problem solvers. We just like to make solutions look bad ass. that’s just what we do 💁🏻♀️
